Forkable Event Itineraries
When a programmer takes someone else’s code and then starts modifying it for their own needs or with their own features, we call that “forking” a project. People do this is an all kinds of other domains too, such as revising someone else’s contract for their own needs or modifying a recipe for their own tastes. It’s similar to using the “Save As…” feature of a document. No matter what you call it, we’ve introduced this feature to our recently launched PorchFinder app for Petworth’s 2026 PorchFest. The app allows community members to build their own custom itinerary from a choice of more than 400 musical acts held in a single day. They can then share their itinerary with others — and now someone who receives an itinerary from someone else can “fork” it, revise it and modify it to their own needs. (It’s actually just labeled “Copy & Edit” in PorchFinder, but it was more fun to discuss forking.)
Put a fork in it? Not at all. The PorchFinder app is still in beta, with more features and enhancements to come and we’re looking forward to seeing how people use it at Petworth Porchfest on May 30, 2026. Hope to see you there at least if our itineraries overlap anyways!
